The forms and images in the works of Hemant Rao seem to germinate and grow rather naturally and effortlessly. The germination seems very cohesive as well and is emotive to the core. The sheer blossoming of the forms enchants the viewer. Small forms relating to buds, butterflies, birds, feathers, seeds, flowers, the sky, the sun, the stars and the moon etc., have a movement of their own. Be it on paper or canvas, Hemant succeeds in giving his forms a certain freshness and softer tones; which are further softened by the dry pastels, he loves to use most of the time. The spaces in between the forms are judiciously left open and along with the forms, the images and motifs can breathe easily. A certain lightness of being permeates in all his works; and without putting any pressure at the retinal level, his works indeed touch us, as feathers would touch our skin, to sensitize our senses towards them, in an unobtrusive manner.
